Meet Lynn Wehrman,
Founder of WeCo
Lynn Wehrman built WeCo to change the way organizations understand and practice digital accessibility. Her lived experience and professional expertise have shaped every part of our mission.
Early Roots in Accessibility
Lynn was born with, and raised alongside four sisters, who lived with neurodiverse disabilities. Her extended family also included many members who lived with similar disabilities. Lynn explains:
“From the time I was very young, I was always aware that we were different than other families. Epilepsy and mental illness were present for generations on my mother’s side; we were taught to keep quiet about both. Managing medication and symptoms was a natural part of life.”
Being different, and competing in a world that didn’t recognize invisible disabilities, Lynn grew up to be keenly aware that:
- Being “different-abled” doesn’t make a person incapable
- People living with disabilities do not have a level playing field in academics and employment
From Government Work to Purpose-Driven Business
Lynn Wehrman began her career as one of the first government digital accessibility specialists in 2008. With an education in communications, and professional background in federal program coordination, she led an early effort in government digital accessibility for the Minnesota Department of Transportation. WeCo came to life after she witnessed firsthand the power of people living with disabilities working as subject matter experts, in her government role.

Advocating for Mental Illness/Neurodiversity Acceptance
Lynn has become a staunch advocate for the capabilities of people who are neurodiverse in the workplace, especially those with mental illness. Receiving a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder as an adult, and successfully overcoming it with Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Lynn confronts societal taboos with straightforward, yet tactful, education approach when speaking to the public, by being open about her lifelong struggle with mental illness.
