About the Workshop

3-hour pre-conference workshop for the 2026 TAMIO conference, focusing on WCAG 2.1 AA/ADA Web Rule compliance.

The workshop will be presented in 3 parts:

First Hour: Understanding the ADA Web Rule and People with Disabilities

1. What is digital accessibility and how does it impact real people?
2. Accessibility and the law
3. Accessibility standards and measures
4. Understanding our disabilities and digital interaction
5. Navigating digitally with a disability: demonstration and discussion

Second Hour: Website Accessibility

1. Accessibility overlays versus genuine accessibility structure
2. Creating accessible website navigation structure
3. Accessible visuals: images, charts and more
4. Accessible forms and other interactive elements
5. Accessibility tools that can help

Third Hour: Accessible Documents and PDFs

1. What makes a document inaccessible
2. Creating accessibility in native documents
   1. Navigation points through hierarchy
   2. Accessible visuals: writing effective alternative text tags
   3. Color contrast and accessibility
   4. Tips on Excel-generated PDF accessibility (agenda memos as an example)
3. Creating accessibility in Adobe PDFs: proper tagging basics

BONUS Break Out Session: Accessible Videos and Social Media

1. Video captioning basics
2. Enhancing accessibility with transcripts
3. The “what,” “when,” and “how” of audio description
4. Posting accessibility social media;

Speakers: Your WeCo Instructor Team

Lynn Wehrman was one of the first Digital Accessibility Specialists in the nation when she began accessibility work for the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s Americans with Disabilities Act Transition Plan in 2008. Pioneering the agency’s first accessible website and document program, she created an interactive process where stakeholders with disabilities were consulted along the way.

Lynn founded WeCo in 2011. Raised in Wisconsin farm country, Lynn and her four sisters were born with different forms of Epilepsy. Lynn was misdiagnosed with a major mental illness as a young teen, learning as an adult that she had Borderline Personality Disorder traits. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy saved her life.

Lynn is a strong advocate for people who are neurodiverse, and those who live with mental illness. She is also a strong advocate for the recovery of people living with Borderline Personality Disorder. A single parent for many year, Lynn has a grown daughter, and now lives in a small-town north of Minneapolis, Minnesota with her husband.

Dane began at WeCo as one of our Certified Test Consultants in 2015. He is currently working as an International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) and a Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC).

Dane’s ability to translate his life experience into the client’s accessibility code requirements are utterly amazing to witness. We identified Dane’s unique abilities to understand digital accessibility when he explained to us that he had taught himself code to improve the performance of his screen reader.

A unique self-taught professional with strong interpersonal skills, he is asked for repeatedly by our retainer clients. Dane’s disability life skills are blindness/low vision and neurodiverse/cognitive.

Dane leads WeCo’s mentor program for aspiring Accessibility Specialists. Kansas born and raised, Dane is repeatedly asked for by clients for his warm, approachable teaching manner.

Ellen’s educational and background in usability testing, and technical writing has fostered meaningful testing and learning collaborations between our clients and our Testers. With a Bachelor of Arts in Technical Writing and Communication, Information Technology and Design from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Ellen also holds a certification in Instructional Design and is a member of the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP).

Ellen joined our team as a technical writer for the launch of our WeCoLearning product in 2022. She excelled in her work and assumed the role of Usability Testing Lead in 2024 and has led both digital and built environment usability tests for our clients.

Ellen also established WeCo’s internal practices and client services for accessible video and social media. In 2025 Ellen took on the role of Director of Accessibility Services and is rolling out WeCo’s new Accessible Document Services division.

Ellen’s disability life skill is neurodiverse/cognitive. She loves cooking and attending weekend craft shows near her home outside of the Twin Cities area in Minnesota.
