Government Digital Communication Platform Products Earn Multiple Honors for Accessibility to Users Living With Disabilities
Minneapolis, MN – February 3, 2016– The Wehrman Collaborative, LLC (WeCo), an IT accessibility testing organization, announced today that GovDelivery, Incorporated has been granted a limited right of use of WeCo’s Access Approved® logo for two of their government digital communication products. GovDelivery first received this honor in 2012 for their Digital Communication Cloud, and earned the honor again in 2014. At the end of 2015, GovDelivery received this distinction for an additional product that is currently under development. This is the first time an organization has met WeCo’s Standards of Access® for multiple products.
“IT accessibility work is most often applied to a single website or software product just prior to release,” commented WeCo President and founder, Lynn Wehrman. “GovDelivery has taken the initiative to ensure that multiple products are accessible to users living with disabilities, prior to making them available to the client. We think this is a highly commendable and exciting development.”
The WeCo Access Approved® logo is granted to organizations and companies whose websites and digital platforms conform to section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) WCAG Guidelines. In addition, WeCo has developed its own standards for accessibility over and above the before name guidelines and standards. As a firm focused on delivering human-based testing, WeCo’s Certified Test Consultants conduct user-focused verification tests in accordance with US and international accessibility legislation and guidelines. All Certified Test Consultants live with one or more disability recognized by the US Department of Human resources: cognitive, hearing, motor skill or sight related.
“At GovDelivery, we’re committed to exceeding the needs of the government organizations we work with, and we know those organizations feel the same way about the communities they serve. We’re proud that the GovDelivery Communications Cloud is WeCo Access Approved®, helping our clients easily adhere to important government mandates around Section 508 Compliance, and we continue to work with WeCo to ensure that other future products meet the same stringent accessibility standards.” said Scott Burns, CEO and Co-Founder of GovDelivery.
